Installing Padre is an horrible thing. But it seems, that it is the best IDE for Perl.
If you get this error
[…]perhaps you need to install package libgtk2.0-dev or the equivalent for your system.[…]
when you try to install Padre on Mint with “sudo cpan padre”, you must install the correct c++ compiler.
In my case, the g++ package was missing. For sure, libgtk must be also installed. It would have been great, if the logs also said that.
If you get after this in stuck with following error
[…]one dependency not OK (Debug::Client); additionally test harness failed[…]
try cpanp instead of cpan with this options:
cpanp -i Debug::Client Padre --allow_build_interactivity=0 --skiptest=0 --force --prereqs=1
And if you get this crap after the installation and running padre
DBD::SQLite::db selectall_arrayref failed: attempt to write a readonly database at (eval 1903) line 41.
Perl exited with active threads:
1 running and unjoined
0 finished and unjoined
0 running and detached
follow this guide.
For me the padre folder was located under
Run padre definitively once as root.
